26-Mar-2017 26 March

… 26 March has such meaning and memory for me. This was the date in 2002 when Jimmy and I met at Doncaster railway station after 30 years apart.

Our story began in 1969… 26 July 1969 to be precise… the date when Jimmy and I first met… doubles tennis match in the park in Prudhoe (sadly this park is no longer there having been bulldozed to make way for a supermarket!)  At first Jimmy ‘went out’ for a short time with my best friend Gillian but a year later – same date but 1970 we began to ‘go out with each other’ and in 1971 we were engaged. But… we were young and things didn’t work out and in 1972 I broke off the engagement and left home and went to work for the BBC in London. We never communicated in anyway after that and I remained in the south.

Roll on nearly 30 years to new years eve 2001 – I had been trying to find my friend Gillian (yes, the one Jimmy had gone out with) on the Friends Reunited site without success but was directed by an old mutual friend to Jimmy’s profile on the site who said he was still in contact with Gillian. I sent an email to Jimmy and just a few days later received a reply.

The rest, as they say, is history. After daily emails and then daily phone calls we decided we just had to meet. So on the 26th March 2002 I set off to Doncaster neither of us quite sure what to expect. But we hit it off straight away… the years just rolled away and we had so much to talk about and say to each other. We walked around the grounds of Cusworth Hall for hours and hours…it was a lovely beautiful sunny day, a taster for the beautiful and sunny days we were soon to share together because by 12 April 2002 I was back in the north east (I had come home) and we moved into a flat in Newcastle. Bliss.

We didn’t take photos that year but the following year we visited Cusworth Hall again and we did… here we are.

Happy memories… miss you Jimmy xx
