28-Jan-2011 Some Things Never Change

How very true…

We picked up our ‘new’ car today… Honda Jazz 1.4i-dsi SE. Fits like a glove – comfortable and familiar, but this one has a bit more pzazz than our previous one. We were sad to say goodbye to our 03 friend who served us so well, but we’re really pleased to have the younger sibling in our family. Many thanks to Louise at Springfield Honda for finding the right car and for helping ensure a smooth and trouble free change… only wish our motor insurance firm were half as helpful! But that’s another story…

After much research and window shopping we also got our new sat nav – a Garmin 1490T… having been firm advocates of TomTom for the past few years we’ve decided to try ‘the opposition’. So far so good – massive screen, some neat bells and whistles, and no problems getting the whole Europe map on board all at once.

It’s been an interesting musical few days too – a new venture at the Clayton Arms in Dudley, a sort of ‘suck it and see’ first folk night. An open plan pub with a raised area where performers and audience enjoyed a varied mix of musical styles. In the first half we played:

  • Back Home To You (Allan Taylor)
  • When (jiva)
  • Durham County (Steve and Kristi Nebel)
  • Folkie Lament (jiva)

and, in the second half:

  • Different Dreams (jiva)
  • Dream On (jiva)
  • Some Way Home (jiva)
  • One More Song (jiva)

And then a night of music at St Paul’s Church, Jarrow, where we saw Jon Strong (new to us) and our good friend Allan Taylor. The Bose L1 system and the natural church acoustics meant we got crystal clear sound. A grand night indeed, some great music, and a chance to catch up and natter before and after the concert.

Bring on tomorrow… we’re ready and raring to go!
