16-Jan-2008 high tech for jiva with Bose L1

High tech and high spec – the revolutionary Bose L1 Cylindrical Radiator speaker system is an amazing piece of equipment which combines cool looks with phenomenal sound amplification. The clarity and all-enveloping sound has to be experienced to be believed.

We first saw a Bose L1 at the Candlelite Club in Newton Aycliffe – and played a few songs through it (thanks to Andy of Steam Radio). At first it was a little strange to have the speaker column (‘the stick’) behind us, but we were intrigued at how much better the sound was… so we filed the thought away in our ‘someday, one day’ drawer.

Having decided early in 2007 that we would hand over the reins of Ashington Folk Club to a new team at the end of the year, we also decided that we would spend more time promoting the gentle jiva blend further afield. We plan on playing more venues, and we felt that we needed a system that would be better sounding than our separates for Front of House and on-stage monitoring… something that would sound like us to the audience and also to ourselves while playing… and it would be nice if it was easier to transport and set up.

Memories of the Bose L1 system kept nagging at us, so we did some research into specs, reviews and user opinions etc. Special thanks to the excellent Musicians forum where Bose designers and employees communicate regularly with system owners and those just thinking about it – their helpfulness in answering our queries was (and still is) much appreciated. Thanks too to Sound Control in Newcastle who set up a system for us to audition in their Newcastle shop (even to the point of providing two microphones of the type we use already).

And the rest, as they say, is history. So… look out for us or, better still, ask us to come and play for you. We think you’ll like what you hear.
